A £16.3 million project to transform the transport hub has been ongoing with the hope that it will prove to be a catalyst to create business and further investment opportunities to support the central business district and retail rejuvenation in the heart of the city.

In Pictures: Flooding stops trams in Nottingham

The new year is only a few days old but the weather has already caused numerous issues to UK tram networks. Whilst Blackpool was hit by a delay to the service on New Year’s Day after overhead line damage, in Nottingham it was a more serious and lengthy disruption with severe flooding at Wilford Lane leading to the suspension of through services on the Clifton South line.

Winter timetable to start in Blackpool on 7th January

The Blackpool Tramway will introduce a new timetable from Sunday 7th January which will see a reduction in service frequency during the evenings. The change comes with reduced passenger numbers expected following the switching off of the Illuminations and end of Christmas by the Sea.

In Pictures: FTS Christmas Tour and Illumination Tours in Blackpool

Saturday 30th December 2023 saw the annual Fylde Tramway Society Christmas Tour which ended up using the Illuminated Frigate HMS Blackpool and Balloon 700 on a complete system tour. In Pictures: Split service for Hogmanay on Edinburgh Trams

Ever since Edinburgh Trams opened in 2014 big events on Princes Street has meant that services from the Airport have been forced to turn short at West End with no trams any further into the city centre. With the extension to Newhaven opening in June it now means that although trams are still unable to run along Princes Street it is possible for a split service to run, and this was in operation to allow the big Hogmanay events to take place in the Scottish capital.

Blackpool Twin set 3’s new home announced

This is a story which got a bit missed at the time, but the new home of Blackpool Twin Car 673+683 was announced just a few days after the two halves of the tram left Wyre Dock. They were transported to Hambleton where they have been acquired by Brickhouse Farm Cottages.
