The Completely Random A-Z of Trams in the British Isles! Y is for Youngest Tram

Nearly there on our A-Z as we reach the letter Y.

And the latter Y is for Youngest Tram. And by youngest we mean the tram which arrived on its home system the most recently and that honour falls to West Midlands Metro 52 – a tram which just entered service as we wrote this article! (And when the article was initially being written hadn’t done that!) One of 21 Urbos100 trams which have been built for West Midlands Metro by CAF in Zaragoza from 2021-2023 it was delivered via Bristol Docks to Wednesbury Depot on 22nd November 2023. It has been undergoing commissioning but this hasn’t yet led to an entry into service.

As it hadn’t yet entered service the photo of this tram shows it on the back of a low loader as it arrives as its new home for the first time. The same firm have been employed to deliver all the trams (initial delivery, not the many, many times they have been moved elsewhere) from Spain and this image is of 52 on the final stretch of its long journey.
