The Completely Random A-Z of Trams in the British Isles! Z is for Zoo

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2024 on British Trams Online! And our first article of the year concludes our “A-Z” and of course that means it’s the letter Z.

And we go with Z is for Zoo, most particularly Blackpool Zoo. The Zoo has been a regular advertiser on the trams in Blackpool, indeed the first Brush Car to receive a all over advert was 622 for Blackpool Zoo in 1975. This has seen both Brush and Balloons advertise the Zoo with some adverts more colourful than others. 622 now carries its original advert again with it being in use at a local school now and fellow Brush Car 637 carried an advert right up until it was broken up for spare parts. Balloon 715 also retains between deck ads for the Zoo.

The last full all over advert for Blackpool Zoo was applied to Ballon 711. It was seen in service on the tram between May 2010 and November 2011 and could be described as busy with many different animals featuring. Its seen at Pleasure Beach. (Photograph by Gareth Prior, 15th September 2011)
