56 back in service on West Midlands Metro

At the end of September 2024, West Midlands Metro Urbos100 tram 56 was named Amman Ahmed after a local volunteer who won a contest as part of the 50for50WM campaign which celebrated 50 years of the West Midlands County. Then around about a week later the tram suffered a fault and hasn’t been seen since – until now!

15 Years Apart: Nottingham Express Transit 204

“15 Years Apart” returns for another series as the end of the year once again approaches. The premise of this series is simple – we feature a photo of a tram in 2009 and one of it in 2024 as we see what has changed with the tram in the intervening years. This year all of the trams have changed in some way, in most cases it’s a new livery or advert so it won’t be as much of a “can you really see the difference?” as it has been in the past! We start off with a trip to Nottingham.

A driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after driving their car on the Metrolink tracks at Wythenshawe in the early hours of Tuesday 3rd December.

Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours stop all operations

Heritage trams will no longer operate on the Blackpool Tramway following a review undertaken by Blackpool Transport. They cite ongoing challenges in operating the trams on a modern tramway, especially in regards to new safety measures which are being introduced on all UK tramways following recommendations which came after the tragic Sandilands accident on the London Trams network in 2016.

In Pictures: Flooding causes Supertram disruption

Heavy overnight rain in Sheffield led to delays for trams on Thursday 5th December 2024. The tracks were flooded on Middlewood Road close to Leppings Lane tramstop which meant that early morning trams were unable to travel to Middlewood.

In Pictures: Glasgow 1245’s restoration at Summerlee

Although the tramway itself at the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life remains closed (the Council are currently in the process of recruiting for a Heritage Technician which will allow the tramway to be reopened in the future) that doesn’t mean that there is no work to do with the trams going on. The big project for several years now is that of Glasgow 1245 and here we have an update of recent progress.
