The second release of 2026 for the “Let’s Talk Light Rail” podcast has been released where the LRSSB team discuss plans for the future governance of the organisation.
George Lowder, Chair of the LRSSB, and Carl Williams, Chief Executive of the LRSSB, join Marketing and Communications Manager, Carly Swift, to explain that the organisation is now moving towards greater independence and a new governance structure, with more direct representation from network owners and operators.
Carl Williams said: “This follows a series of recommendations from the Office of Rail and Road, and extensive consultations with the sector on the future of the LRSSB and its relationship with light rail’s representative body, UKTram.”
George Lowder added: “Undoubtedly, the LRSSB is already adding value to the sector and making it safer, and there will not be any immediate changes to day-to-day operations. However, we will see the appointment of new directors to the board, which will continue to include representation from UKTram, and the implementation of new articles of association. Work will also continue on the development of formal working relationships with key stakeholders and a future membership structure.”
