Special Metro Art goes on display in mini replica train

One of the features of the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains is artwork at the end of each carriage, and now the replica Metro train at the Tiny Toon miniature play village in Newcastle City Centre will also feature art – although these have been designed by budding artists from local primary schools.

240 entries were received from primary school children with their task being to draw their favourite places to go by the Metro. Four lucky children then had their designs selected – Freddie (aged 7), Mikael (aged 6), Amelie (aged 9) and Daisy (aged 7).

Sarah McCourt, Head of Communications and Marketing at Nexus, said: “A huge thank you to all the schools and children who took part. We were really impressed by the creativity, talent and sense of fun in the designs. It’s clear that the children love taking day trips on the Metro with their families, and we hope they’ll be doing lots of that this summer.”

The winning entries will also be displayed across the entire Metro fleet until 31st August 2025.
