In Pictures: Supertram improvement works update

With improvement works on the South Yorkshire Supertram network currently taking place around Hollinsend and at Herdings Park there is another revised service which is seeing trams not able to run all the way through on the Blue route. This has led to a shuttle service running from Gleadless Townend to Halfway and we take a look at that in service in this pictorial article as well as some more images of the works taking place.

This phase of works started on Saturday 3rd August and will continue until Sunday 11th August.

Taken from the handy top-deck of a bus this view is on Ridgeway Road showing work taking place on the outbound line. The work includes the replacement of the track.

Another photo showing new track now in place, again on Ridgeway Road.

To allow the service to run from Gleadless Townend to Halfway – which runs up to every 15 minutes instead of the usual 12 minute frequency – fives trams are being outstationed away from the depot. 112 was the spare tram and is seen stabled.

109 arrives at Gleadless Townend from Halfway with a terminating service with no access any further along the line.

Having terminated 109 now moves forward and uses the crossover ahead of reversing and going back to Halfway. Note the Gleadless Townend destination.

109 then sets off for Halfway. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 5th August 2024)
