Down goes performance on the Tyne & Wear Metro

There are falls in performance and then there are Tyne and Wear Metro falls in performance – the latest “How are we doing?” poster has recently been added to stations across the network and it doesn’t make pleasant reading if you want a reliable service.

This latest poster covers the four weeks between 17th October and 13th November 2021 and shows that only 71% of trains arrived on time (as always on time means three minutes late or 30 seconds earlier than scheduled). This is not only down on the previous four weeks (83%) but also the same period in 2020 (77%).

Although the poster is still in the Covid style of giving details of guidelines and what they are doing to make the network as safe as possible, observations recently have seen that a lot of delays have been attributed to issues with low rail adhesion – a problem seen across the UK at this time of year.
