We’ve all heard about driver shortages affecting services on the Blackpool Tramway this year and in order to combat these there have been regular driver training cars out on the line as we see in this latest edition of “Out and About”.
The chosen tram for driver training is usually 001 which was fitted with an extra seat for the instructor from the outset of the upgraded tramway (making its choice to receive an all over advert the more confusing). In both of the images on this page we see 001 in use for training at Pleasure Beach heading south. (Both Photographs by Trevor Hall, 24th November 2021)
Flexity 2s 001, 002 and 003 all have the additional seat in the driver’s cab and 002 is the normal choice for training, usually followed by 003 (also an allover advertisement – Pretty Little Thing). 001 tends to be used, generally, for route probation after passing the main test.
