UKTram to develop new standards for driver trainers

Starting in July, UKTram is to give a boost to training for tram drivers by working with colleagues across the sector to develop a new set of standards for driver trainers. This new initiative – which is part of a wider National Occupational Standards (NOS) project – will see the publication of new guidelines setting out the key responsibilities of tram driver trainers as well as the required competencies.

Explaining more is UKTram’s Operations Manager, Steve Duckering: “This exciting project follows on from the recent publication of the NOS for drivers and now looking at doing the same for trainers. The first stage of the process will draw on expertise from sector professionals, specialist consultants and other relevant organisations, with publication of the standards expected by the end of the year.”

NOS set out the skills, knowledge and understanding required to undertake a particular task or job role to a nationally recognised level of competence, helping to formalise training requirements for employers and employees across the UK.  They are available to all organisations in the sector free of charge and can be used in a wide range of HR functions including training, developing apprenticeship programmes, benchmarking and recruitment.
