In Pictures: Another update from Leith Walk

We head back onto Leith Walk for this latest view of recent construction progress on the Trams to Newhaven project. This time out we are at the site of one of the future tramstops – McDonald Road. Roy Calderwood with the image.

McDonald Road will be the second new stop on the line to Newhaven from Edinburgh City Centre (the first being Picardy Place which will be a replacement for York Place). Here good progress is being with track laying with both the Newhaven bound and Airport bound rails having already been put down.

In this image we are looking southwest towards the city centre with Elm Row on the left and Haddington Place on the right. The Airport bound track is that on the left with the Newhaven track on the right hand side of this shot. In the centre background you can make out St James Quarter which will see its first new shops opening on 24th June of this year. On the left hand side the shop with the red and yellow frontage is the popular and long-standing transport model shop, Harburn Hobbies with the converted office block centre right on Haddington Place being Hostelling Scotland’s Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel.
