Track works confirmed for Nottingham Express Transit from 29th April

Nottingham Express Transit services between Nottingham Station and Old Market Square won’t run between 29th April and 10th May to allow for rail replacement works close to the Lace Market stop in the city centre during this period. A revised tram service will run either side of the closure with a replacement bus service bridging the gap between the two.

The track to be replaced will be on the tight curve at Fletcher Gate and Victoria Street which is said to be one of the sharpest bends on a UK tram system. Ahead of the closure there will also be some preparatory works overnight between 18th and 28th April.

During the closure as well as no tram service running there will be a full road closure in place on Fletcher Gate just above Pilcher Gate and on Victoria Street just east of Bridlesmith Gate.

The work was originally scheduled to take place over the summer but has been brought forward in the calendar to help support city centre businesses when further restrictions are due to be released.

Constantina Samara, NET Customer Services Manager, said: “The first line of the tram network has been operating services since 2004 and track replacement is an important and necessary part of making sure that we can operate a safe and reliable network, providing a comfortable journey for our customers.  We have brought this work forward so that it can be completed ahead of the ending of Covid restrictions when we look forward to welcoming many more passengers back and seeing more people in the city. It made sense to do it while fewer people are visiting the city and using the trams, so we can keep disruption to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience the works do cause.”

The revised tram service operating during the works will be:

  • Clifton South/Toton Lane to Nottingham Station
  • Hucknall/Phoenix Park to Old Market Square

Monday to Saturday 0600-0700 and 2100-0000: every 15 minutes

Monday to Saturday 0700-2100: every 10 minutes

Sunday/Bank Holiday Monday 0600-0700 and 1900-0000: every 15 minutes

Sunday/Bank Holiday Monday 0700-1900: every 10 minutes

The replacement bus service will run every 7-10 minutes between Nottingham Station and Royal Centre.

A full service is scheduled to resume from the start of service on Tuesday 11th May.
