Around the World in Trams: Innsbruck 54

Once again we head to Austria and Innsbruck as we take a look at another of the trams in the city during July 1964.

In the post war period IVB purchased a number of second hand trams from Basle and Zurich with no money available at the time for the planned new trams. For a number of years the Basle cars – which had been purchased in 1950 – still ran in their old colours as there were not the funds to repaint them but from the mid-1950s they received the standard Innsbruck fleet livery. In this picture we see no. 54, one of the ex-Basle trams standing at Berg Isel Depot.
