The West Midlands Metro are celebrating after confirmation they have been nominated for a number of categories in the Global Light Rail Awards – with the winners to be announced on 11th November. Amongst the categories they have received nominations in is the Operator of the Year category, currently held by Keolis Amey Docklands.

As well as the Operator of the Year category the West Midlands Metro have also been nominated for the Most Improved System, Team of the Year and the Rising Star Award for a member of staff.

Speaking about the nominations, Carl Williams, Metro Director of Operations, said: “The fact we’ve been named as finalists in multiple categories is testament to the dedication and hard work of staff right across the organisation. We’ve achieved real progress over the last twelve months, not least with the successful launch of services through the heart of Birmingham to Centenary Square. Of course, we have also been faced with the unprecedented challenge of Covid-19. But, once again, our team has delivered an impressive response by introducing a range of measures to keep the network safe while maintaining essential services and developing innovative ways to keep customers informed about the latest travel guidance.”
