Trams return to The Point

Luas services are running between Connolly and The Point again following the completion of the reconstruction of George’s Dock Bridge. Trams retuned to this section of the Red line from the start of service on Friday 28th November, just over three months since they were last able to run.

19th August 2025 had seen a major fire break out in George’s Dock causing major damage to the bridge which carried Luas tracks on its line to The Point. Major work has been required to replace bridge infrastructure, reinstate the Luas tracks and complete essential utility and electrical upgrades.

A spokesperson from Luas said: “This was a large and complex project that would normally take much longer to complete. Thanks to a strong collaborative effort across all teams, we are now able to reopen the Red Line ahead of Christmas, ensuring customers can travel easily through the Docklands at this important time of year.”

After final safety checks were completed and extensive testing of trams on the reinstated line the go-ahead was given for services to resume from the start of service on 28th November, bringing an end to the service having to be terminated at Connolly and replacement buses running the rest of the way.
