Around the World in Trams: San Francisco 1056

Today’s “Around the World in Trams” again features a PCC in service in San Francisco, with this one running in a “tribute” livery to Kansas.

Now numbered 1056 in the Muni fleet, this PCC started off life as no. 2113 in the Philadelphia Transportation Company fleet. As with the other PCCs we have seen over the past few weeks this car was acquired by Muni in 1992 and after restoration in 1993 it entered service on the “F” line when this opened. Whilst we see this car in September 1996, 1056 has gone on to be the least used of the PCCs acquired for the opening of the “F” line (except for 1054 which was involved in a collision with a LRV in 2001 and deemed uneconomic to repair) having itself been involved in an accident in the early 2000s and then withdrawn in 2010 after a fault was found. It has since enjoyed a second renovation during 2016 and returned to action in 2017. 1056 carries a “tribute” livery for Kansas City Public Service Company as we see in the following three images, which includes a reverse end shot.
