Lockdown Walks: West Midlands Metro 26

Today we take another trip to the West Midlands Metro to see the service still operating for those needing to make essential journeys during these extraordinary times.

The below photo was taken at Trinity Way which is located on the system between West Bromwich Central and Kenrick Park. As with the majority of stops on the network it welcomed its first passengers on 31st May 1999 when line 1 opened to the public and has remained open ever since for passengers to head both to Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

The tram we see here is 26. When this photo was taken it was travelling from Wolverhampton St George’s to Library and as can be seen here is in the full new fleet livery with no adverts interrupting the blue corporate colours. It also has the battery compartments on the roof enabling it to run on those sections without overhead wires. (Photograph by Andy Walters, 10th April 2020)
