Numbers 2 – Blackpool & Fleetwood 2

2nd December and so that must mean we are going to feature a tram with the number 2!

2 is another number with plenty of choice of heritage trams and the chosen tram is Blackpool & Fleetwood Rack 2, which in the 140th year of the Blackpool Tramway seems like an appropriate choice! Rack 2 was built in 1898 for the opening of the Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramroad and would remain in the operational fleet plying its trade on the Fylde Coast until withdrawal in 1938 (by which time it had become of the Corporation Tramways fleet and was numbered 127). Becoming a Works Car in 1939 it would remain used for that purpose until 1951. A period of storage followed and that helped to secure its more into preservation with it restored to a passenger car for the 75th anniversary in 1960. 1964 saw it transferred to Crich where it has remained ever since (except for a couple of brief returns to Blackpool). It last ran in 2018 (albeit briefly over one weekend), although its full withdrawal had come in 2014. It is now on display. We see 2 in this photo on its last weekend of operation as it passes the depot entrance – and the return of the tram was clearly popular judging by the full load.
