Around the World in Trams: Giardinetti Railway 423

As we continue our look around Rome we are once again on the Giardinetti Railway for this week’s overseas tram image.

Porta Maggiore is again the location for this photo which shows 423 approaching the camera. The narrowness of the streets that the Giardnetti Railway runs on can be seen to good affect in this view. Also of note is that running at right angles across the railway is one of Rome’s tramway routes. Photo taken on 24th May 2018.

If one has a little time to spare whilst in Rome one should try to see the museum of this line at the old Colonna station (easily reachable via suburban train): https://www.facebook.com/ferroviamuseo/
Many vehicles from this railway line have been preserved privately there (and across the road in the garden of the owner – including the odd Rome tram). Other COTRAL/STEFER vehicles (from other lines) are now also present there. All are on static display. You need half a day at least to get there and see it all.
