Ticket machine contract set to be approved in Edinburgh

What is being described as the final significant tram contract is set to be approved in Edinburgh with Parkeon the preferred bidder to provide and maintain ticket vending machines for the tram system. Parkeon currently provide ticketing services for Lothian Buses and this is one of the reasons why they have been chosen so an integrated ticketing system can be introduced in the City.

This contract is part of the overall £742 million budget of the Edinburgh Trams project and has a capital cost of £1,158, 757 with an annual maintenance charge of £186,247 for five years. Edinburgh will follow Manchester Metrolink and London Tramlink in having ticket vending machines although Nottingham Express Transit are expected to follow in the future.

Cllr Lesley Hinds, Transport Convener on the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “This contract is significant, not only because it will provide an integrated system for the city’s public transport network, but also because it’s the last significant contract to be let for the tram project. With testing now underway on the western side of the route and all contracts in place, I’m happy that things are progressing well and, along with the project team, I’m
looking forward to a productive and successful 2013.”
