Man dies after being struck by tram at Saughton

A man has died after he was hit by a tram at Saughton on Edinburgh Trams. The tragic incident happened at around 1215 on Tuesday 11th September and led to tram services being suspended for several hours.

Full details of what happened have not been released but it is known that the man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was injured. The tram involved was 260.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Trams said: “First and foremost we would like to stress that our thoughts and sympathy are with the man’s family. As well as conducting our own investigation into the incident we are, of course, co-operating fully with both the Police and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch. As investigations are ongoing, we are unable to comment further at this time.”

Following the incident trams ran between York Place and Haymarket and from Edinburgh Park to Edinburgh Airport with replacement buses in operation between. A full service started after 1600.
