Enthusiast tour raises over £1,000 for children’s charity

When you think of enthusiast Private Hires you probably think of the Blackpool Tramway but recently the London Transport Museum Friends hired a tram on Nottingham Express Transit for a full system tour with over £1,000 being raised for local children’s charity When you Wish Upon a Star.

Over 40 members from the London Transport Museum Friends paid £20 each to enjoy the tour which saw Citadis 237 used to cover the entirety of the NET system. Nottingham Trams Limited waived the cost of hiring the tram to allow for proceeds of the day to be donated to charity. An initial £840 was raised but following donations made throughout the tour a final amount of £1,010 was able to be donated to the local charity whose founder, Barbara White, currently has a tram named after her.

Mike Kay, Tour Manager at LT Museum Friends, commented: “Each of our members thoroughly enjoyed the visit which provided a great insight into the day-to-day workings of a very impressive tram network. Darren [Smith, Deputy Operations Manager] and Daniel [Patterson, driver] combined excellent commentary with very professional driving and everyone we met was a huge credit to NTL. We’re very pleased our visit will have a further positive impact with this kind donation to a well-deserving charity.”
