Metrolink boost capacity in lead up to Christmas

With just 50 days until Christmas and people apparently starting to think about their shopping for the festive period Manchester Metrolink are set to boost capacity on certain routes with more double trams operating from Monday 7th November until Friday 23rd December.

Double trams will run as follows:

Altrincham to Piccadilly (every weekday)

Bury to Etihad Campus (every weekday)

East Didsbury to Shaw & Crompton (every weekday between 0700 and 1900)

Single trams will run:

Altrincham to Bury (weekdays between 0700 and 1900)

East Didsbury to Deansgate-Castlefield

Rochdale Town Centre to Exchange Square

There will no change to tram allocations on the Eccles to Ashton-under-Lyne or Manchester Airport to Cornbrook services.

Cllr Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “This is great news for both commuters and leisure travellers, particularly in the busy run up to Christmas. We constantly monitor demand to travel across the tram network, listen to feedback from our customers and look for improvements. I’m very pleased we’ve been able to provide this festive boost.”

How many extra trams will this mean in service everyday

  2. tram man says:

    Keith,
The allocation of double units has risen at both depots since Monday. At Old Trafford it has risen from five to ten doubles and Queens Road has risen to fourteen doubles. The Alt-Picc and Alt-Bury line seems to have benefited most with double units running from start to end of service.

Many thanks tram man have booked to travel to Manchester next Wednesday to spend time getting the last 18 trams, I assume Cornbrook and Victoria are the best places to go.

  3. Geoff Kerr says:

Cornbrook and Victoria would get them all as there is of course now no single place where you can see everything.

it seems as though T.F.G.M think people do not shop or go to work on saturdays. After all the hype of enhancing the service on weekdays with extra double units for the build up for Christmas guess what service they put out Saturday.Yes they did’nt put one double unit out and just run single units all day.
