In Pictures: Construction continues on Black Country line

We make another foray out onto what is likely to be the next tram extension to open in the UK – the West Midlands Metro’s Black Country line – to see some more recent progress. This article concentrates on the scene around Horseley Road bridge where its pleasing to be able to see more progress with track, sleepers and work on the stop all underway. Seaton Tramway Works Car 02 undergoes maintenance

Seaton Tramway’s Works Car, numbered 02 in the fleet, is currently enjoying a well earnt overhaul at the Riverside Depot of the tramway. Over 70 years old and last seeing significant attention in 1992 the tram is vital to the operation of the three mile long line in Devon and with this latest work it should be able to continue its role for many years to come.

NET hit with clean-up bill after sewage ends up on tracks

Flooding which affected the Nottingham Express Transit line at Wilford Lane in early January included sewage leading to a large clean-up bill for the tram operator it has been revealed.

West Midlands Metro to support Bulls in the City

This summer don’t be worried if you see a load of bulls around Birmingham City Centre! It will be part of a charity art project (similar to the Elmer Parade in Blackpool last year) – Bulls in the City – which will support Birmingham Hospice and the West Midlands Metro are set to be one of the key sponsors of the event.

In Pictures: Advert trams in the news on the West Midlands Metro

It’s a case of three becomes two on the West Midlands Metro as one vinyl wrap advert has been removed whilst the two remaining have seen some time out of action but are now back in service on the line between Birmingham and Edgbaston.

Supertram services return to normal

After around a week of disruption a full service is running again on the South Yorkshire Supertram. Two track faults in quick succession had led to service changes but trams could again run to all destinations from the start of service on Wednesday 15th January 2025.

Another tramway to suffer with service problems at the start of 2025 has been Nottingham Express Transit. A track fault at Nottingham Station (on the city side of the stop) saw service changes on Wednesday 15th January 2025.

In Pictures: Winter trackwork starts at Beamish

The Beamish Tramway is now closed for an extended period over the winter to allow infrastructure works to take place as well as maintenance on the fleet of trams which operate the service. Not long after the last trams ran for a few months then workers moved in to start the trackworks at the east end of the 1900s Town, which has also meant the buses in operation have had to take a diversionary route. Emergency engineering works affect Metrolink

Two sets of engineering works have led to Manchester Metrolink disruption on Wednesday 15th January 2025. Firstly, trams were unable to travel via Piccadilly Gardens with this followed by more work needed on the Eccles line.

Phased introduction of new Tyne and Wear Metro trains continues

Shortly before Christmas there was an early present for Nexus and the Tyne and Wear Metro when the first of the (eventually) 46 new trains entered service. Since then, and with a break for Christmas, the phased introduction of the Stadler built units has continued with a weekday single diagram remaining in operation.

Edinburgh Trams enjoys another record-breaking year

More passengers than ever before travelled on the Edinburgh Trams system in 2024 according to new figures released by the tram operator. 2024 was the first full year of the Newhaven extension which helped to increase the figures with the year also breaking single day records, thanks in no small part to  certain Taylor Swift.
