Supertram services return to normal

After around a week of disruption a full service is running again on the South Yorkshire Supertram. Two track faults in quick succession had led to service changes but trams could again run to all destinations from the start of service on Wednesday 15th January 2025.

As we’ve reported several times over the past week there was a broken rail at West Street in the City Centre which led to the suspension of the tram service between Cathedral and Malin Bridge/Middlewood from 9th to 12th January. Then from 11th January a second track fault was discovered on Park Grange Road which saw the Purple route to Herdings Park suspended in its entirety whilst the Blue route was split in two – Gleadless Townend to Halfway and Sheffield Station to Cathedral/Malin Bridge.

Limitations with the completion of maintenance of trams running the shuttle to Halfway had meant that there was only a limited frequency service with ticket acceptance on local bus routes arranged. There was also a replacement bus service to link the two sections of the Blue route, but this did not run on Monday 13th January.

Fortunately, the repairs were finished in time for trams to resume along Park Grange Road again on Wednesday 15th January, bringing an end to the week long disruption for Supertram.

During the disruption on Park Grange Road services from Malin Bridge ran as far as Sheffield Station (once they were able to go beyond Cathedral because of the West Street issue). Although on all the online updates this was described as the Blue route, when 120 was seen approaching Cathedral heading to Sheffield Station it was working a temporary Green route service.
