Nexus reveal plans for introduction of new trains

With the first two Stadler Tyne and Wear Metro trains having entered service at the end of 2024, the anticipation for the introduction of the remainder of the fleet has continued with questions of just when more may be seen carrying passengers. And now to help that, Nexus have given more details of their plans for the phased introduction of the entire fleet of 46 trains.

City of Edinburgh Council Transport Convener rejects calls for Bus Rapid Transit in lieu of trams

Cllr Stephen Jenkinson, Transport Convener on the City of Edinburgh Council, has rejected calls for the city to introduce a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme instead of trams on the long hoped for North-South transport corridor between Granton and the Royal Infirmary (and beyond). Calls had been made by the Scottish Conservative opposition who said it would be cheaper and quicker to introduce buses instead.

Nexus Pop App launches real-time Metro tracking

Users of Nexus’ Pop App are now able to track the position of trains in real time on a new digital map thanks to an upgrade to the app which was launched on Wednesday 29th January. The new technology is a major upgrade to the app and comes in response to customer feedback and follows the launch of push notifications last year.

LCC Tramway Posters to go on display

A collection of 40 historic London County Council Tramway posters are to go on display next month at the London Archives. This will be a rare chance to see some of the designs which were seen across the LCC network in the 1920s and early 1930s, before the London Passenger Transport Board was created.

Over the years we’ve become used to reporting on how this city has found some tram tracks under the road during works and removed them, or reburied them, ignoring the history of what they’ve discovered. But in Bradford it’s a different story as they have now relaid some old tram tracks which were found last year.

Another NET ticket offer for students

Students in Nottingham can enjoy cheaper travel on the trams until the end of this academic year thanks to two new offers which are available from now until Friday 28th February. The offers will allow students at school, university or college to purchase reduced price season tickets in an attempt to reduce the number travelling on the trams without a ticket.

2025 Metrolink works to kick off at Weaste in February

Passengers who use Manchester Metrolink’s Eccles line are being urged to check before they travel next month as the first set of improvement works for 2025 get underway at Weaste. The work will be taking place between Saturday 1st and Tuesday 25th February and will mean there are no trams running between Eccles and MediaCityUK.

In Pictures: Metrolink services run from Altrincham to Old Trafford

As we reported last night, on Friday 24th January 2025 Manchester Metrolink services were subject to significant disruption after damage to the overhead lines at Deansgate-Castlefield. This had meant that no trams were able to run through this stop which usually sees services every few minutes to locations across the network. It also led to revised service patterns and unusual destinations on the trams. Such as at Altrincham where trams were, initially, only able to run as far as Old Trafford. Steven Hughes captured these photos.
