Already adopted by tram systems in Blackpool, Edinburgh and Manchester, the LRSSB backed “Two Lines = STOP” safety campaign is stepping up a gear with the launch of four new illustrated characters to highlight dangerous behaviour.
The campaign features eye-catching signage and striking social media content and is aimed at reducing the risk of collisions between trams and members of the public. The key messages of the campaign are based on research identifying the most common causes of such incidents.
Carly Swift, Marketing and Digital Media Manager at the LRSSB, said: “Although trams are one of the safest modes of transport, our studies have shown that some pedestrians are crossing tracks while distracted by their mobile phones or are simply oblivious to their surroundings.
“So far, anecdotal evidence shows that our ‘Two Lines = STOP’ message is getting through, and adding new characters to our collection of campaign imagery will ensure they continue to catch the attention of unwary pedestrians. This is particularly important as many people stop paying attention to signage they see every day.”
The new illustrations have been launched ahead of the campaign being extended to cover more tram systems in cities across the UK where the LRSSB and safety experts have been working with operators to develop content tailored to meet their individual needs.
