In Pictures: More works on the Black Country Line

It may still be January and the weather may not have exactly been clement but that has not stopped the Midland Metro Alliance from continuing to make more progress on the construction works for the Black Country Line which, let’s not forget, we are promised should be running by the end of 2025. This article is another pictorial update of what has happened recently and includes preparation works for the installation of overhead posts. Andy Walters is the photographer.

Although it is expected that at least some of the line (or at least that is what the Midland Metro Alliance website tells us) will be built without overhead to allow the trams to operate for sections on battery power it won’t be possible for the entire line to be so fitted. That means that it will need overhead wires installing and in preparation for that they have recently started to put in the overhead support posts. This is currently evident between Wednesbury Depot and Great Bridge as seen in the distance in this photo.

Work is also underway on Dudley Port tramstop, which will be the third stop on the line from Wednesbury. This photo shows the start of the works with track laying not having reached this location just yet. (All Photographs by Andy Walters)
