This collection of photos heads back to June 2024 as we take a look at what happened during the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum's 2024 Trolley Fair.
For many years the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum ran their trolley fair on the trackage that traversed their main campus area located at 1 Museum Road. In June 2023 the last such event occurred at this location occurred. On 7th November 2023 the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum completed a massive project at their East Campus site, the last element of which, the new Welcome and Education Center opened on 8th November 2023 for the members and the next day for the public. For the Trolley Fair, it meant relocating to the East Campus with Volunteer Boulevard providing a superior location to Richfol platform. It also meant that adjacent McClane Country School Loop could serve as the staging area for each of the parades. Each parade would depart the McClane County School Loop, run westbound on the main track to the Enterprise Loop where the cars would turn off of the main track and head for the Volunteer Boulevard trackage where they would curve east, run past the attendees, go down the hill to the Redman wye, there to follow the orders of the dispatcher for dispersal. From the photographer's point of view, the first two parades (Pittsburgh cars at 1100 and Cars from all other Cities at 1300) were easy to shoot from just east of the Allegheny Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard grade crossing. The sun was perfect for the 1100, and a little photo editing took care of the lighting for the 1300. The 1500 parade (work cars) was a bit of an issue with the sun in the western sky so our photographer tried shooting from the area where the Allison shelter once stood. Shooting both north and south of the tracks, it seems the north side might be best; but the north end of the Enterprise wye might be even better. The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum opened at 1000 AM on the day of the Trolley Fair, so for the first hour of the day, a car ran on the "City Loop" (Visitor's Center to McClane School Loop and return) while a second car ran on the "Interurban Loop" (Visitor's Center to Arden Loop and return); and tour guides were available in the Trolley Display Building. It was almost "business as normal", but with a lot more visitors and a food truck available. * For full details of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum visit their website at https://pa-trolley.org/. |
