Around the World in Trams - The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum 2024 Trolley Fair


This is a J.G. Brill design "Master Unit" with suburban style seating which was built as Philadelphia and West Chester Traction Company 78 by the J.G. Brill Company (order number 22965) in 1932. This car rides on two Brill 89E1 trucks each of which mounts two General Electric 301B traction motors; it has General Electric C525B controllers. This car was built to the Pennsylvania Trolley gauge. This car became Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company ("Red Arrow Lines") 78 on 19th December 1935 as a result of a corporate reorganization. Ownership of the car passed to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority ("SEPTA") as of 29th January 1970; this car retaining the number 78. This car was retired in September 1982 and was subsequently acquired by the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
