![]() 4398 is a P.N. Jones designed low floor car based on the "Peter Witt" design of trolley cars. It was built by the Saint Louis Car Company (Lot number 1078) in April 1916. This car was originally single ended when it was built as Pittsburgh Railways 4398 and rides on two Standard M25 trucks each of which mounts two Westinghouse 514PR traction motors and has a Westinghouse K35KK control group. This was part of a group of cars built for the Pittsburgh Railways with smaller sized traction motors to allow for the "low floor" design. This car was built to the Pennsylvania Trolley gauge. It is typical of the fleet of 1056 similar cars operated by the Pittsburgh Railways; there were 618 single ended cars, 213 double ended cars, and 225 cars were unpowered trailers; this fleet was referred to as the "yellow cars". This car was retired circa 1955 and was sold to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum as of 5th April 1956 via the Pittsburgh Electric Railway Club. |
