A trip to… East Anglia Transport Museum

In this article we head to the East Anglia Transport Museum once again for some late season views. This visit by Bryan Grint was on Thursday 24th October (the penultimate Thursday opening for 2024) when the tram service was being operated by Sheffield 513 and London Transport 1858 with trolleybus interest provided by Derby 237.

Budget gives hope for trams in England

Rita Ora is voice of Metrolink ahead of MTV EMAs

If you happen to be travelling on the Manchester Metrolink network you may be in for a bit of a surprise as Rita Ora will be taking over the tram announcements at selected stops. This is all in conjunction with the MTV EMAs which take place on Sunday 10th November at Co-Op Live with Rita Ora presenting the ceremony. The announcements will provide important tips on how to get around and plan journeys, while also helping to put a smile on the faces of passengers.

In Pictures: The first rescues the last in Blackpool

The sight of one modern tram towing another is a relatively rare one across all UK light rail systems. Although breakdowns do inevitably occur, its often the case that the failed tram is able to crawl back to the depot under its own power after a little bit of attention from a fitter and a laptop. However, Monday 21st October in Blackpool saw a tram having to be towed back to depot as captured in these photos from Steven Hughes.

In Pictures: Balloon 708 gets ready for the winter

A few weeks ago when we reported on the 90th birthday celebrations for Blackpool Balloon 708 at the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft it was also mentioned that the volunteers at the museum were planning to protect the tram for winter. This has now taken place as seen on another visit to the museum.

LRSSB release updated Safety Management Systems guidance

The Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) have published new guidance on the development of tramway Safety Management Systems (SMS). The guidance was developed whilst the LRSSB supported the transition of South Yorkshire Supertram into the ownership of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).

In Pictures: The realigned Metrolink track at Derker

Back in July 2024, Manchester Metrolink services beyond Oldham Mumps were suspended after land movement around Derker which affected both the track and overhead poles at this location. After intensive rectification work, trams were able to resume from 19th August and this article takes a look at some of the work completed.

In Pictures: Work continues on Blackpool 298’s restoration at Crich

Now that the major restoration of London County Council 1 is at an end with the tram having launched into service in September 2024, the big focus in the Workshop at the Crich Tramway Village is on Blackpool Brush Railcoach 298. In Pictures: The Terror Tram out for Halloween

When the Fylde Transport Trust’s Blackpool Brush Railcoach 634 was repainted into a special “The Terror Tram” livery whilst it resided at Rigby Road Depot it was envisaged that it would have plenty have spooky outings and with 2024 being the first Halloween since it was recommissioned for service as its new home at the East Anglia Transport Museum this was the first real chance for it to come into its own.
