Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: Corporation Street

We’re back with another set of articles on “Manchester Metrolink Then & Now”. The premise of this series is simple; two photos one showing the location before Metrolink arrived and one after.

We’re back on the Second City Crossing (2CC) for this edition as we take a look at Corporation Street. 2CC runs for a distance along Corporation Street at the Victoria end of the route and the area has seen much development in recent years with Metrolink just being part of that.

14th October 2014 and Metrolink construction work is underway on Corporation Street. The National Football Museum is already in place on the left at a time when it offered free entry for all (now just local residents have that privilege) and on the right is part of Manchester’s entertainment complex.

Almost 10 years later – 12th July 2024 to be exact – and Metrolink is now in operation along Corporation Street and its 3127 we see on its way to Oldham. The National Football Museum remain on the left which allows us to easily tell we’re in the right place. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
