In Pictures: Napier University advertise on Edinburgh Trams again

Edinburgh Napier University are the latest sponsor of a tram in Edinburgh after a new design for the University was unveiled on 257 at the end of July 2022. This isn’t the first time they have advertised on a tram with a previous design being seen on 269 between July and October 2021.

257 was until recently advertising Ocean Winds (a design which had been applied in October 2021) but these yellow vinyls have been replaced by a mainly red advert for Edinburgh Napier University. Its in the usual style for Edinburgh with above window adverts of five of the seven sections and full height adverts on the other two.

John Napier was the inventor of logarithms and was born at Merchiston Castle in 1550. His name has been given to the institution which started life as Napier Technical College in 1964 and then became a University in 1992.

This is the fourth advert carried by 257. Its first was for Johnnie Walker from February 2018 to January 2020 followed by one for the Ray Harryhausen Titan of Cinema Exhibition (November 2020-October 2021) and then the aforementioned Ocean Winds (October 2021-July 2022).

The traditional view of a tram with advert at St Andrew Square with the tram off to the Airport.

Presumably this jovial looking chap (with very long legs!) on the Queensferry Crossing is an engineering student who loves life at the University.

Another of the centre sections adverts shows Merchiston Tower or Castle which is part of the Merchiston campus of the University. There’s another happy giant student climbing over the building too! (All Photographs by Roy Calderwood, 31st July 2022)
