UKTram Owners and Authorities group meet to set new objectives

The Owners and Authorities group at UKTram have met for the first time since the new leadership of Chair Chris Hopkinson and Vice-Chair Stuart Lowrie was announced earlier this year.

The meeting – on 15th July 2025 – saw representatives from across the UK’s light rail networks to identify priorities and set the direction for future discussions.

It was decided that topics for the future would include procurement practices, asset renewal planning, enhanced collaboration with contractors, plus the integration of ticketing systems in light of emerging bus franchising models.

At the meeting they also discussed funding whilst there was a detailed discussion on the condition of highway road surfaces intersecting with light rail infrastructure. Concern was raised around maintenance and there were calls for greater national support to address the ongoing issue.
