British Trams Online Tram of the Year – Voting Open!

Voting in the British Trams Online Tram of the Year contest for 2013 is now open in all three categories: Tram of the Year, Tramway of the Year and Event of the Year.

After a week of nominations and much scratching of heads our “expert panel” have come up with five trams, three tramways and four events which go forward to the public vote which is open from now until the morning of Saturday 11th January 2014.

The shortlist for Tram of the Year is:

* Blackpool Boat 227

* Blackpool Centenary 648

* Glasgow 1068

* Leeds 107

* Stockport 5

The shortlist for Tramway of the Year is:

* Blackpool Tramway

* Heaton Park Tramway

* Manchester Metrolink

The shortlist for Event of the Year is:

* Rejuvenation of Blackpool Heritage Service

* Crich Enthusiasts’ Day

* The Great North Festival of Transport

* Heaton Park Tramway Autumn Gala

You can find out the reasons why each of these nominees have made the shortlist at http://www.britishtramsonline.co.uk/tramofyear.html and then  once you have decided what you are going to vote for go to http://www.britishtramsonline.co.uk/tramofyearvote.html to submit your vote. Please remember it is one vote per person per category so please don’t try and submit multiple votes. And don’t forget it is just for fun!

If you have any queries regarding why tram x didn’t make the shortlist but tram y did please do contact us and we will try and explain our (my) decision making!

Good luck voting and may the best tram, tramway and event win!

  1. James Robinson says:

    Oh yawn, yet another Blackpool biased vote with 2 out of 5 cars – there are too many cars from this system being in Museums now !

    • Chris Callan says:

      2/5 After the Year Blackpool has has seems perfectly reasonable…

      On balance seems a perfectly reasonable some would say quite safe selection. its the system that survived did what other couldn’t adapted and fought for its existence. Thats why their popularity not likely to weaken. Unlike other systems its not just in a book its their its real and its writing new history month by month.

    • Mike says:

      And two that are Crich residents so equally “biassed” to there…

      It’s just a bit of fun. It’s not as though any tram that doesn’t win will be scrapped or anything, so no need for such comments.

      I say well done to all the nominees. It shows what a good year it has been all round and the diversity of tramways we have to enjoy.
