105 is back in service on the South Yorkshire Supertram after an absence of over three years. The tram made its return to passenger service on Monday 8th September when it operated on the Yellow route.
105 last ran in passenger service on 23rd July 2021 when it was hit by a lorry at Hyde Park causing significant damage to the cab whilst also being derailed. After a period of storage at Nunnery Square Depot it was then sent to Kilmarnock in two sections on 14th and 15th March 2022. It came back to Sheffield after repairs on 30th and 31st August 2023. After further work at the depot and testing it has now finally come back into use – 1144 days later (or 3 years, 1 month and 17 days if you prefer!).
Of course, things have changed on Supertram since it last ran with Stagecoach no longer the operators following the takeover by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. But as with all trams in the standard fleet livery it retains the old livery with the Stagecoach removed.
