The major improvement work currently taking place on South Yorkshire Supertram – a total of £5 million has been invested by he South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority since they took control of the network again in March 2024 – is moving along Middlewood Road with the latest location of works being at Leppings Lane tramstop. That work is shown in these photos taken by Stuart Cooke.
This phase of work is concentrating on the outbound track between the two platforms at Leppings Lane (this stop has staggered platforms). The work is seeing the old track removed and then replaced with new track and is being undertaken by Volker Rail on behalf of SYMCA. The work along Middlewood Road is due to be completed on Sunday 1st September.

Looking towards Middlewood this view is taken from the citybound stop at Leppings Lane showing the large work compound where the rail replacement is currently happening. Note on the right under the Leppings Lane tramstop sign additional signage letting everyone know that the tramstop is closed. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 16th August 2024)
