Hannah Ross – who as Head of Major Projects and Commissioning at the City of Edinburgh Council was a key figure in delivering the Trams to Newhaven project – has been appointed as Chief Executive of Scottish Rail Holdings.
Ms Ross will join Scottish Rail Holdings on 30th September. Scottish Rail Holdings has the responsibility for the oversight of ScotRail and the Caledonian Sleeper since they were transferred into public ownership in 2022 and 2023.
Whilst involved in the Trams to Newhaven project, Ms Ross managed to secure business case approval and then moved on to successfully deliver the construction, testing and commissioning ahead of its opening in June 2023.
In addition to her new role as Chief Executive she will also chair the boards of ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper.
Ms Ross commented: “The railway in Scotland is a vital part of our economy and society, connecting people to work, education, entertainment, and family and friends. I’m passionate about growing public transport given the positive impact it can have on economic growth and opportunities for communities, and crucially, the part it plays in our drive to net zero.”
