We return to our series looking at photos of Manchester Metrolink either before or during construction and once trams were running as “Then & Now” is back for the next few weeks.
In this series we have previously been at Jocelyn Street but that time we were looking east so it makes sense this time to look to the west. As we look west we are look towards the location of the Monsall stop on the Oldham and Rochdale line.
On 12th March 2009 there has been very little progress on construction here although there is a nice flat surface which will be able to form the basis of the Metrolink trackbed. Monsall tramstop will be located between us and the next bridge.
Jumping forward to 25th July 2023 and looking in the same direction and of course trams have been running this way for a number of years now and its hard to think of a time when they didn’t. The tramstop is now in place and as with many now photos in this series the amount of tree growth makes it very difficult to place where you are. But the bridge in the distance and the residential property through the trees help us to get our bearings. (Both Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
