Co-op Live may have been a venue which didn’t exactly get off to the most positive of starts but since it did finally open it has seen a third of visitors use public transport get there. And now as they seek to continue their sustainability they have come to an agreement with Transport for Greater Manchester to extend the deal which sees event ticket holders get free travel on Metrolink until the end of July 2024.
Since Co-op Live opened anyone who holds a ticket for an event at the venue had been able to travel for free across any part of the Metrolink network for up to four hours before and four hours after the event they are attending. And it has proven such a success that it has now been decided to extend the agreement so that ticket holders for all events up to the end of July 2024 can also enjoy this perk.
The extension of the initiative comes after post-event data shows that more people are choosing to use Metrolink than by car. Its anticipated that over 1 million will use sustainable travel options over the next year. This also includes the CityLink walking route which has been upgraded ahead of the venue opening to walk from the city centre to Co-op Live and other venues at Etihad Campus.
Fran Wilkinson, Customer and Growth Director ay TfGM, commented: “We are delighted that we have been able to work with our partners at Co-op Live to extend this groundbreaking tram travel offer. More than 400,000 people have visited Co-op Live since the initiative was launched in April – with a third travelling by public transport. It’s great we can offer a safe, sustainable and quick way to get to the venue and we look forward to welcoming more concertgoers on board in July.”
