Preparation for rail replacement on West Midlands Metro continues

As we mentioned earlier this year there are plans for rail replacement works on the West Midlands Metro network at several stops on the original line between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. There has been no additional closures announced for this work to take place with the expectation it is only relatively minor work and can be done during other closures.

In preparation for this work some of the paving between the rails has been removed. So far, the following have seen this attention:

  • Dudley Street (to be finished)
  • Dartmouth Street (to be finished)
  • West Bromwich Central
  • Kenrick Park
  • The Hawthorns
  • Winson Green
  • Soho Benson Lane
  • St Paul’s

Other stops may also follow in due course.

New rail is also to be seen by the side of the tracks and this will be used as replacement in the near future.

Its hoped once this work is completed temporary speed restrictions in place may be removed.

New rails by the side of the line waiting to be fitted.

Contractors on the tracks during normal service.

The track at Kenrick Park has also been painted blue. West Midlands Metro corporate blue?!

West Bromwich Central is also a bit of a worksite at the moment with other works taking place in connection with the eventual installation of ticket machines. (All Photographs by Andy Walters)
