Following the completion of repairs to the substation, the Heaton Park Tramway is coming close to reopening for the season with testing and crew re-familiarisation now underway. Although no date has been set just yet for passenger services to recommence this is an important and positive step towards it.
As you’ll probably recall the tramway had originally been due to reopen for the 2024 season on 30th March (Easter weekend) but shortly before this date it was announced that owing to a component failure in the substation this wouldn’t be possible until repairs could be completed.
Now the volunteers from the tramway have worked alongside their partners at Manchester City Council and Heaton Park to complete these repairs. This has enabled trams to start running on the line under their own power again, with Saturday 4th May seeing Blackpool pair 619 and 623 out on test and crew re-familiarisation.
This will now continue to ensure that everything is in place to allow the safe resumption of services in due course. An official reopening date will be announced as soon as possible.
