Nexus celebrates wins at the Rail Business Awards

Nexus have been rewarded for an excellent year of achievements by winning at the Rail Business Awards which took place last month in Manchester. This event is for the UK rail industry and highlights the achievements of railways across the country with Nexus winning in three categories.

Wins came in the Metro Flow project, asset management, customer services and the new Gosforth Metro Depot.

Cathy Massarella, Nexus Managing Director, said: “We are proud and extremely delighted to have won three prestigious Rail Business awards this year. This is a significant achievement, and my congratulations go to all of our passionate and dedicated teams who have worked so tirelessly to make this become a reality.

“To gain this level of recognition from our industry colleagues is hugely rewarding for us as an organisation, and for every person who works for us providing key services for the people of North East England.”

The Customer Service Excellence award was given for Nexus’ incident recovery after flash floods deluged Metro lines and flooded South Shields Transport Interchange during the Great North Run last September.

Regional Initiative of the Year was given to Nexus alongside Kier Construction for the £100 million Metro Flow project, which saw three key sections of the Metro network dualled in South Tyneside to give extra capacity on the network.

And in the Asset Management and Rail Maintenance category there was a victory for Nexus’ new rail infrastructure alignment and acquisition system.

The success didn’t end there for the Tyne and Wear Metro as Stadler and Volker Fitzpatrick won the Infrastructure Project of the Year award for the new depot at Gosforth. This £70 million project was recently completed and will provide a state of the art home for the new fleet of trains currently being built by Stadler for the Metro, and due to start entering service sometime this year.
