Women inspire Inclusion at West Midlands Metro

With International Women’s Day taking place this month West Midlands Metro are looking to inspire women to consider a career in light rail ahead of further expansion of the network. To achieve this they are celebrating the contribution already made by women towards the success of the network.

They already boast an impressive record of providing opportunities for female members of its team and was one of the first in the UK to have a woman, Sophie Allison, serving as Managing Director.

Sophie commented: “We already have a very diverse workforce, drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and we have several women who are enjoying success in senior roles. However with only 12% of our team being female, we know we still have a way to go before we can reach full equality in what is still a male-dominated sector.

“As the world celebrates International Women’s Day this week, we will be holding a special gathering on Friday, where we will discuss how colleagues can play their part in making the organisation even more inclusive while celebrating the contribution of our female colleagues. The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is “inspiring inclusion”, and we’ll also be hosting a motivational talk for colleagues attending the event, while highlighting support that’s available to help female colleagues fulfil their true potential.”
