Saturday 24th February saw Scotland’s second (and final) home match of the 2024 6 Nations Championship with the Calcutta Cup fixture against England taking place (a game which Scotland won 30-21 to claim their fourth successive victory). And with thousands of fans needing to be transported to and from the rugby at Murrayfield Stadium, once again extra trams were put as we see in this latest Edinburgh pictorial article. All photos by Roy Calderwood.
The match didn’t kick off until 1645 but this view taken at St Andrew Square shows some early arrivals heading for the stadium. 270 (advert for Camera Obscura) arrives at the stop here bound for the Airport. In the background the former Scottish Equitable building is to be converted to a Clayton Hotel.
Extra trams were put out which led to scenes such as this on Princes Street – trams queuing. 264 has just caught up with 270 with both going to the Airport.
264 is then seen pulling into Princes Street. Despite the fact that 270 was only just in front of it there are still going to be plenty of passengers for 264.
Back at St Andrew Square and its another case of trams catching each other up. We’re looking down North Saint Andrew Street here with 256 being caught up by 267.
And 267 arrives at the still busy platform.
As with the previous 6 Nations match a number of trams didn’t run full route with them terminating at St Andrew Square and then going to York Place to use the crossover. 254 shows that move for us. (All Photographs by Roy Calderwood, 24th February 2024)
