Update! Metrolink strike suspended (No Metrolink service confirmed for strike days)

The planned strikes due to affect Manchester Metrolink services on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June have been suspended. Normal services will now run all weekend with some stops being temporarily closed – the link at the end of the article gives full details (original article is still included below).

It has been confirmed that no Manchester Metrolink services will run on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June with Unite the Union confirming that their members will be going on strike on these days.

The strike action is being taken over the current pay deal offered by KeolisAmey Metrolink to Unite members. This has been reported as 5% but Unite consider this to be a “woeful” offer and an overwhelming majority of members voted in favour of going on strike. Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has attempted to intervene by asking the union to meet for talks on the proviso that they suspended the strike action  but this has been declined by Unite.

The weekend sees several major events in Manchester, including Parklife at Heaton Park, The Weeknd at the Etihad Stadium and Soccer Aid at Old Trafford, and the strike action will, of course, have a significant impact.

No trams will run at all throughout the whole weekend and although services will resume from the start of service on Monday 12th June its likely to be 0800 before a full service is running.
