New mural at Chorlton shows the famous tram cat

Batman – known as the “Chorlton Tram Cat” – has been immortalised on new mural installed at the Manchester Metrolink stop. The colourful piece of artwork has been commissioned by the civic society Chorlton Voice and was formally unveiled on Tuesday 30th May.

Manchester based artist, Caroline Daly, has painted the artwork on the lift shaft at the tramstop and as well as Batman it also features green spaces and birds to reflect local biodiversity. The mural was designed by members of Chorlton Voice and a steering group of local community groups, traders, councillors and council officers. Funding came from the Manchester City Council Neighbourhood Investment Fund.

Dany Vaughan, TfGM’s Head of Metrolink, said: “We have worked very closely with Chorlton Voice on this project over several years, so I’m delighted to see this brilliant artwork finally come to fruition. We know that Batman the cat has become quite the Metrolink celebrity in recent years, so it’s great to see him taking centre stage on a piece of art which I’m sure will be enjoyed by passengers.”

Batman is well known in the area for befriending passengers at the tramstop and will now be a permanent feature on this new mural.
