The Number 20: Blackpool 236

In this edition of “The Number 20” we are off to the Crich Tramway Village again to take a look at one of the Blackpool trams in the national collection.

Tram: Blackpool 236

Built: 1934

Qualification for series: 3 x 6 + 2 = 20

One of only four Boat Cars to remain in the UK, 236 entered service at Crich in 2012 as a fully fledged member of the collection but it had previously been a visitor at Crich in 1985 (when numbered 607). Ahead of entering service in 2012 it underwent some work to return to it original condition which included the removal of windscreens, becoming the only Boat Car to run like this in the UK at the present time. This shot shows the tram outside Rita’s Tea Rooms on its launch day – which needless to say took place in the rain! (Photograph by Hazel Quarmby, 3rd June 2012)
