In Pictures: Full advert for Edinburgh Trams 270

Since the end of 2016 we have become used to advertising liveries on Edinburgh Trams consisting of full height vinyls on two of the seven sections of the tram with the other parts just having an advert above the windows. But that pattern has now been ended as the latest advert – on 270 – is the first true all over advert with all traces of standard fleet livery having been removed in favour of vinyls for Breitling.

With the Six Nations championships now in full swing (with Scotland’s first home match taking place on Saturday 11th February) this is another advert with a rugby connection as the advertiser are the official timing partners for the championships as well as being a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer.

The final result on 270 is actually a fairly pleasing effort with a good combination of dark blue and yellow making the tram stand out. Despite the fact that it is a full vinyl wrap it features no more contravision that the “normal” look as it is still just sections three and five which have that feature. One of the full height sections features representations of each of the rugby nations who take part in the Six Nations whilst the other features a watch and Hamish Watson, who plays for Scotland.

270’s first advert was for CR Smith in September 2017 with this being replaced by a design for American Express in September 2019. A second American Express advert was carried from November 2019 to March 2020 after which (and as with many trams) it spent a period sans adverts. Its next advert came in July 2021 with Multrees Walk being the sponsor and this has remained in situ until this contract for Breitling.

270 and its new full vinyl wrap livery are captured at Princes Street when picking up the crowds to head to Murrayfield for the rugby. This shows the full advert.
